im in grade 10 and im not sure what i want to be when i grow up and this planning class is trying to ';help'; us decide this weekPROS AND CONS OF BEING A DERMATOLOGIST?
Excellent pay and flexible hours. Always in high demand with an ever growing income base. You would need to be real smart in school and very serious about your studying.





Requires lots of education with high grades and with a strong science background. Being a dermatologist also means you will either have to work at a clinic for several years to save up money to pay down your school and office debts or you will need to incur lots of new debt to open your own office.





Most important is that to be a good dermatologist you need to be a good ';people'; person with some real personality.





Most of your cases would be very easy but the difficult ones could take some real finesse and brains to manage properly. Telling someone they are dying from melanoma is not an easy job, regardless of what you are getting paid.

First! I think it's cool that the planning class is getting you ready for the real world. Secondly what do you find interested are heart caring for you. Is it a Doctor, Teacher, Police, Firefighter, Army, Judge, Lawyer. I can continue going but it's something you want to do not for someone else. When You Do Choose I Bet It's Going To be Very Good
Pros - Good pay, you help people


Cons- It's possible that not EVERYONE has the time, money or patience to actually see a dermatologist when there are products in the local drugstore.

How do you become a dermatologist? what do you need to major in?

at my college there is no pre-med major, therefore you can major in anything. but medical schools want you to take biology, chemistry, physics and major courses so most likely biology or chemistry are 2 ones to consider, but keep in mind, med schools want to see diversity as well and want all their required classes, and some classes that can can show character like sociology and classes like thatHow do you become a dermatologist? what do you need to major in?
Usual major is pre-med, but you can major in a science or any other subject, as long as you take all the pre-requisites for med school admission [check the med school's website for details].





You'll take the MCATs [like SATs for med school], then go to four years of medical school. Then comes one year of internship [optional for some specialities], then 3-5 years of residency, then, if you want, a fellowship of several years.





Internship and residency are paid [modestly], involve 80-hour work weeks and 24-36hr on-call duty.

Can you become a dermatologist with a D.O. degree?

Or can you only specialize with an MD degree?Can you become a dermatologist with a D.O. degree?
A DO can specialize in anything just as an MD can. They have the same training, just a different attitude about medicine and the DO can do chiropractic work where an MD hasn't had that type of training. I have worked with both DO and MD and I prefer working with the DO!!
