You have to see your GP for referral to the dermatologist on the NHS. I've wondered the same thing before, but found out it was not possible. In the end I went private. Is there any way of seeing a dermatologist without a gp referal (uk only please :)?
I tried to do this and I am insured for medical treatment.I wanted a second appointment with the dermatologist. I was told by the dermatologists secretary that the dermo needed a letter of referral because more than a year had elapsed since my last appointment.

If you are a NHS patient, you haven't got a hope in hell. If however you want to see a demo privately, you could bluff it out. Make an appointment and tell the dermo that your doctor said that he would send a letter of referral. The dermo wants your cash and he will probably examine you.
Yes, of course.

The UK has both a free NHS system that is accessed through your GP and also private medical care that you can choose for yourself. Library, GP office, local pharmacy, Pub might be able to recommend a practitioner, or if there is a local Health Office, ask them,

You pay, you choose!

Give them a ring and ask what is the procedure -can you be self referred.
Yes you can go private..don't forget your credit card..
Normal practice would definitely be to be referred via your GP.
yes if you pay

While go to school to become a dermatologist..?

so i'm considering becoming a dematologist because i love helping people with their skin and i dont know if this is a lame question but while your doing your 9 years of school would you have a small job on the side in the medical field or would you have to have some other job like waitressing or being a bank teller...etcWhile go to school to become a dermatologist..?
Very few people are able to manage being able to work and attend the 4 years of medical school. Once you finish medical school you will get paid while in residency, but many people do work some additional hours in ERs or other settings to help pay back the loans they took during medical school. While go to school to become a dermatologist..?
im sure you could intern or be an assistant in the medical field

but until you have a license you won't be doing a big job

I'm starting to get male pattern baldness (it's receding). My dermatologist recommended rogaine and propecia.?

But this stuff is expensive ($70/month for propecia and not sure about the rogaine). No guarantees that it will work. What do I do? Do I take the pills and use the foam? Or do I just let nature run its course?

Knock on wood, not yet losing hair on the back of my head or the center of my head. Just at the temples.I'm starting to get male pattern baldness (it's receding). My dermatologist recommended rogaine and propecia.?
I've had excellent retention and regrowth with the Rogaine foam on my hairline...I've also added Nizoral 2% (prescription strength, available on Amazon.com from Canada). Nizoral has been clinically shown to reduce DHT in the scalp which causes hairloss

I understand adding Propecia to the mix is extremely powerful as well, but I felt a lot of side effects (most people don't)...if you can take it, you might consider taking it...just consider it like another bill. Rogaine foam is only like 40 bucks for 3 months....and nizorals cheap tooI'm starting to get male pattern baldness (it's receding). My dermatologist recommended rogaine and propecia.?
you're probably the rule, and not the exception.
  • make up
  • Can you reccomend any good prescribed acne medication? im going to the dermatologist tomorrow.?

I use Azelex and it works pretty well. The first times you use it, it tingles and itches pretty bad. But then your skin gets used to it, and now I hardly have break outs. Its worked wonderfully for me.Can you reccomend any good prescribed acne medication? im going to the dermatologist tomorrow.?
Um, that's the Derm's job...not someone without a medical degree. Report Abuse

you do not need medication. keep your face clean and dry, watch your diet, no greasy foods, oils in body makes acne.
Okay...it's not a prescribed medication, but it works...for me anyway. Try GLA...It's a natural product that balances out your hormones. I don't know how bad your acne is, but wouldn't hurt to try it...

My skin has become discoloured around my neck. should i see a dermatologist?

It may be a hormone problem. That is one of the symptoms for sure. If concerned see an endocrinologist. If they say your ok then go to a dermatologist. My skin has become discoloured around my neck. should i see a dermatologist?
    go and get professional help.

    Dermatologist v. Hormone specialist?

I'm in my mid twenties and suffer from acne (and not just when it's that time of month). I'm also trying to get pregnant but have very irregular periods (obviously the likely cause of my problems). Should I see a dermatologist? Do they treat the cause of acne or just the symptoms?
