DefinitelyWhat happened when you went to a dermatologist for acne? !!!!!!?
cost: free (i worked there) but generally its from 40-80$

did it work? Yes it did work.. my face is clean.. not only that but they let you know what type of skin you have and stuff.

What did they tell you: that i had acne..

Do you recomend it? yes i do.. dermatologist arent only for acne. you can go and check out if you are prone to skin cancer, the type of skin you have. the stuff u shouldnt use on your skin, how to protect and take care of it.. you should go atleast once a year :)
dont most of them proscribe Pro-active?
Cost - just my office visit co-pay of $15, the rest is covered by insurance.

Did it work - sometimes, I am still going on a regular basis.

What did they tell me - at first, they put me on antibiotics, which would clear up some of the acne for a short period of time. As soon as I stopped the medicine, the acne would come back. Then, they had me use Retin A, which tore the flesh from my skin! I looked like I had burns on my face everytime I used it, it is very, very harsh on your skin. It makes your skin peel to reveal fresh new skin. It probably is best for high schoolers, as opposed to adults.

Now that I am 30, we have diagnosed my particular form of acne as Cystic, which means it happens from the inside out and causes cysts under my skin as opposed to zits on my skin. nothing that I put ON my skin works, I have to cure my acne from the inside-out, so to speak. So, now I am on Accutane, which is a freakin' nightmare!! They will only give me a month's worth of the medicine at a time, I have to be on 2 forms of birth control, I have to have 2 negative pregnancy tests every month, I have to check into an online program every month, answer a stupid survey every month, then I usually have to go to 5 different pharmacies before I find one that carries it, etc. It's an awful process. But, amazingly, it's working so far. My skin has never looked this clear. So, when I finish my 6-month regiment, then I have to work on healing the acne scars.

BTW, no over the counter products helped clear the acne, however they did help prevent some topical acne and helped me cover up the acne and scars.

Would I recommend going to a dermatologist?

It depends on whether or not it is covered by your insurance, how old you are, and what kind of acne you have. In some cases, my esthitician was more well versed in how to care for my skin than my dermatologist. So, I go to both the doctor and the woman who does my facials. The combined effort of both of them has given me a clear fresh complexion - finally!!! And it costs a lot of money over time.

Good luck!
There is no need to visit a dermatologist for acne. I use OXY pads and are working very well. My face was covered and just few weeks later they are almost all gone. You just have to use all of them, that is the downside; or they will come back!!!
